BOARDRIDING PASS

An Innovation for the Board Sports Community

The BoardRiding Pass is a groundbreaking initiative developed by Archipelago to revolutionize the practice of board sports by combining easier access to reliable information, circular economy principles, and environmental protection.

Why this project?

Today, board sports are based on a linear consumption model: buy – use – throw away or store. Yet, many pieces of equipment have a much longer lifespan and could be better utilized through sharing systems, reuse, and smart maintenance.

The BoardRiding Pass addresses this issue by offering simplified and structured access to equipment and services while integrating circular economy values.

Objectives of the BoardRiding Pass

  • 🛠️ Promote responsible use of equipment
Encourage rental, second-hand use, and preventive maintenance to extend product life.
  • 🔄 Facilitate product traceability
Ensure transparent tracking of the lifecycle of boards, sails, and accessories using digital tools.
  • 🤝 Unite the rider community around a sustainable vision
Raise awareness and involve practitioners in a more collective and committed form of riding.
  • 🏪 Support local stakeholders
Highlight stores, shapers, schools, and rental businesses that adopt responsible practices.
  • 🏭 Engage brands and manufacturers
Involve them in the continuous improvement of products and business practices.

A Connected and Structured Ecosystem

By creating a connected and structured ecosystem, we enable enthusiasts to access the right equipment at the right time, while reducing the environmental impact of the industry.

To launch this innovation, we will conduct the first real-world trial of the Digital Product Passport in one of the most iconic board sports: windsurfing.

But first, what is a Digital Product Passport?

It’s an innovation that allows the full lifecycle of equipment to be tracked—from manufacturing to reuse, including maintenance and potential repairs.

Thanks to this digital passport, every board, sail, or foil can be:

  • ✅ Precisely identified (brand, model, year of manufacture, material)
  • 🧾 Linked to its usage history (maintenance, repairs, previous owner(s))
  • 💰 Enhanced in the second-hand market with transparent traceability
  • 🌐 Connected to the rider community to foster sharing and circular economy practices

Why start with windsurfing?

The windsurfing community is one of the most committed in the world of board sports. These passionate riders are deeply connected to the environment and are highly mobilized around initiatives that reduce the ecological impact of their practice.

Windsurfing is also a relevant market for this pilot because:

  • The equipment is technical and expensive, requiring regular maintenance to last over time
  • The second-hand market is active but lacks transparency and reliability
  • Riders are attached to their gear, and being able to trace its history will build confidence in transactions

Let’s Test, Build, and Scale Together

With this pilot project, we aim to test the real-world functionality of the Digital Product Passport and measure its impact on the use and transfer of equipment.

Today, BoardRiding Pass is developing and testing a functional prototype of the Digital Passport in collaboration with local companies who supported our initial R&D phase.

And for this, we need your support!

We’ve launched a Kengo crowdfunding campaign to help us reach our goals—and beyond: to scale this solution across other outdoor sports.

👉 Every funding milestone will unlock the BoardRiding Pass for a new sport: Wingfoil, Kitesurfing, Surfing… and more.
